Frequently Asked Questions

Key information

Our rental process works very differently from other car rental companies — simple, transparent, and fair:

  • Insurance is included (no upselling of “extra insurance” at pickup)
  • $400 USD security deposit
(only retained in case of an at-fault accident)
  • In case of self-caused damage to the vehicle, we will discuss it personally and find a fair solution together
  • Return the car with a full tank
  • Non-smoking vehicle
  • In case of heavy interior cleaning required: from 500 MXN
  • Airport delivery (Tulum & Cancún): 1000 MXN
  • Delivery to other locations upon request
🚗 On the road

Navigation:
At major attractions like Chichén Itzá or Tulum, please always drive directly to the official parking area and entrance. Do not stop for people along the road who try to sell overpriced tours or parking spots.

Topes (Speed Bumps):
They are everywhere! Some are hard to see, especially near villages, and can be quite high—so drive slowly and stay alert.

Fuel:
Please use regular gasoline. Always make sure the attendant resets the pump and shows $0.00 before fueling begins. Most gas stations accept card payments.

Safety:
Please do not drink and drive, and always wear your seatbelt.
In case of an accident or any emergency, stay calm and contact me first before taking any further action.

💳 Payment & Restaurants

Currency:
For the best value, try to pay in MXN (Mexican Pesos) whenever possible or by credit/debit card.

Service & Tips:
Always check your bill. If you see “Propina”, the tip (usually 20%) is already included - this isn’t very common. Otherwise, tipping 10-20% is appreciated but never required. Don’t feel pressured.
Feel free to ask me for my favorite restaurant recommendations!

🅿️ Parking & 👮 Police

Playa del Carmen & Cancún:
Street parking meters usually have a maximum limit of 6 hours. If you exceed this time, your car may be clamped (approx. 550 MXN). For longer stays, private parking lots are the safest option.

Police:
If you are stopped, remain calm, friendly, and respectful. The police may ask for your driver’s license and vehicle documents (these are located in the sun visor).
If your passport is requested, a digital copy is sufficient.
For minor infractions (seatbelt, speed, etc.), a small fine may be requested—around 200–300 MXN often resolves the situation on the spot.
